Gladewater Middle School and Weldon Intermediate School projects have been completed, opening doors to students in time for the start of the 2016-17 school year.

Current Facility:

Many classroom and core space sizes are below TEA (Texas Education Agency) standards

Does not meet current building, electrical and fire code regulations and handicap accessibility requirements

Electrical infrastructure cannot support current classroom technology without major electrical renovations

Building systems, such as HVAC, plumbing, roof and windows, have exceeded their life expectancy

Has multiple unsecure access points, detached buildings, portable buildings and offsite athletic facilities, creating safety and security issues

Building foundation issues and site and parking damage exist

New Gladewater Middle School to replace the existing middle school building: $27,075,000

Proposed New Facility:

A new, energy-efficient facility to serve grades 6–8 with a capacity of 450 students to be built on the site of the existing Weldon Intermediate School campus

Classrooms that meet state size requirements, with capabilities to support current and future classroom technology

Computer labs, science labs with prep rooms, elective classrooms and special program classrooms

Fine Arts spaces including band hall, choir hall, art lab and theater classroom

Library, cafetorium and administrative spaces

Main gymnasium, practice gymnasium and support athletic spaces including weight room, locker rooms and training room

Controlled entry vestibule with card reader access system for campus security

New on-site parking and student pick-up and drop-off drives

Additions and Renovations to Weldon Intermediate School for a Grade 2–5 Campus: $7,925,000

Add additional classroom space and restrooms to accommodate the addition of grades 2 and 3

Renovate and expand core spaces to accommodate additional grade levels

Add additional support space and required parking

Minor renovations and new secure entry to the existing building

It is planned for the district to pursue other opportunities for use of the existing middle school and elementary school buildings once they are no longer in instructional use.
